This place goes as one of my favorite "Romantic Spots!" Walking in one may think it is just a order and go restaurant. But if you walk in deeper past the counters you will admire the romantic atmosphere! The dinning room is in a dimmed light setting. A bottle of wine and Italian artifacts on each wall. The booths are perfect size, not like your over sized "unsociable" tables where you can't hear your other half as they speak to you from the other side of the table. This place you can get comfortable and see the color of your partners' eyes. We both ordered two personal pizzas. I ordered a cheese, mushroom and prosciutto pizza, while she ordered just cheese and mushrooms. But as we waited for our food to arrive, I couldn't help to eave-drop on other customers' orders. One guy ordered the "Fruiti di Mare" full of seafood piled high on a bed of linguine. His partner had "Veal Piccata." again, a good portion and it smelled so inviting! Also from a distant I could smell and notice a huge order of golden fried calamari.. Looked crispy and not overcooked. All I could say is....Wow! So I would try more than just pizza here!! When our pizzas arrived and we took our first bites we both can agree that we love their pizza sauce, thick and sweet and so robust full of tomato flavor! The shrooms where indeed fresh and generously spread over the pizzas. The cheese was very stringy and had the awesome taste of a good mozzarella. Both cooked to a perfect crisp and thin. However, I must let you know if you order any pizza with prosciutto expect it to be salty!! Mine was indeed in the salty side, between the mozzarella and the Romano cheese and slices of prosciutto, it can be a "little over the sea" taste! Keep a red wine or a full glass of pop nearby! BTW - "pop" is a northern slang for soda to all you southerners! Their waitresses where very friendly and accommodating having you feel like they are part of the family. We learned how young the owners are and they actually work both kitchen and dinning area. Pass A Grille has its unique community but to put a romantic Italian restaurant in the midst of it all makes you feel you are in Europe or some romantic retreat.

Been to this little Italian place twice now and although the first time was admittedly better than the last, I think it probably had more to do with it being my second date with my (now boyfriend) that made it more enjoyable than it really merits. The quaintness of Gennaro's is definitely where the intimacy factor could have come more into play but it's nothing like the "romantic" setting that other reviewers have mentioned. The lights aren't dimmed at all (at least not when we went) and there were screaming kids and families with tables pushed up together practically yelling at each other to speak. It wasn't super clean either (our booth seats were sticky with some unidentifiable substance) and food was also on the floor. To finish off this lovely scenario of romance and allure, the waitress we had was clearly not happy in the least to be there (huffing and puffing and generally pissed, and that's after we'd been seated for a good 10 minutes without being greeted). As for the food...eh. I've had better Italian at Hungry Howie's. The food seemed slapped together the last time we went, although to be fair, the first time we didn't think it was so bad (again, might be blurred by good memories)...we ordered a trio parm dish with chicken, shrimp and eggplant, along with pizza and some meatballs. Honesty, the pizza was the best part (using the word "best" loosely); the parm dish was unbelievably soggy and the meatballs were made of mystery meat and then obviously nuked for our thorough enjoyment. It's just not a great place. Definitely better Italian in and around both St. Pete and Tampa, don't waste your money.

First the good: cute little place, very small & homey-very nice servers- pizza looked really good- unfortunately we ordered other things The bad: sautéed mushrooms were not cooked-the lettuce in our salad had drowned, the veal picatta was tender but too thick and served in a soup-ish dish, lobster ravioli was smothered in sauce and tasted like chef boy-r-dee-. Stick to pizza - looked great

I was looking for a restaurant for 11 of my friends and I to dine for New Years Eve. After calling some other spots that had fixed menus and a lot of stipulations, I stumbled across Gennaro's. I saw mixed reviews and wasn't really sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, they reserved a private room for us. Being that I called 3 days before New Years Eve and reserved it, I never would have thought we'd get a private room. The service was good and I appreciated that the wait staff was willing to recommend items to us, too. I ordered the Chicken Caciatorre, which was really really good. The cheesy garlic bread and the salads were great too. The wine prices didn't break the bank and we all had a really nice time. Thanks to the staff of Gennaro's for accommodating our big party and for filling our bellies on New Years Eve!

Last minute & later in the evening accommodated us for a wonderful pizza! It was delicious & my husband was so happy after a long day of travels to have that waiting for him. Very friendly service - looking forward to going back.

Super good and really authentic huge slices!! My kids loved the huge slices! The location is super easy, it's right off Gulf Blvd in Pass a Grille.

The best pizza an pasta around. A real authentic Italian food, best place on the beach to eat! The owners Marchello an Vicki are the friendliest people and make you feel at home.

The family and I dined here tonight. Nice little restaurant - certainly not a 5 star environment. But the food was GREAT!! We had a large Sicilian square pizza that was very nice. Also recommend the garlic knots with marinara sauce for an appetizer. If you are okay with small and quaint - you will love the food here!!

  • Ameesh P.

Stopped in here with a group of friends on New Year's Eve as we were staying out at the beach that night. We were really appreciative of how their staff was easily able to accommodate our reservation for 12 and even let us have their semi-private front room area just for our group. The Sangria we ordered for the table was served at room temperature sans fruit so we were all a bit mystified by this. Otherwise, most people enjoyed their meals. I tried the Margherita Pizza and was not disappointed. Overall a quaint place to have a meal if you are not in the mood for bar type food or seafood while out at the beach.

I went to undergrad college nearby at Eckerd, and Gennaro's was a favorite of mine back in the day! I hadn't been back in over a decade and recently made a return visit with my kids. It was good, but not as good as memory served me! It was fancier than I remembered (did they always have tablecloths??), so I felt a bit out of place coming in with sand on my feet and in my bikini top so I waited for our take-out order in the car. By the time we got the pizza back to our condo, it was chewy and the antipasto salad was wilted. And it wasn't that far of a drive, just a hop skip and jump over the bridge to Isla Del Sol! And while it wasn't as good as I was hoping, I am remembering how good it was, and hopeful that next time I go back, it will be as good as I remembered.

Went by the reviews of fellow yelpers and was not disappointed. I had the lasagna and a salad and fresh Italian bread. My meal was very good. Nice location in St. Pete Pass-A-Grill Beach. Nice staff as well. I will be back.

I wish I could give this place infinite stars. We came here on a Friday night, around 7 PM. We were seated immediately. I ordered Chicken Parmesan and garlic knots. After our order, there was an influx of customers, so we had to wait a bit (small place). But when the food came......wow! The Chicken Parmesan was absolutely perfect. For $13.50, you get a huge piece of chicken breast, breaded perfectly, surrounded by sauce that is to die for. On top of that, it was layered with one of the best mozzarella cheeses I've ever had in my life. Service was excellent, no faults in the entire meal, and even though I ate a huge slab of chicken, cheese and sauce, I was ready for more. Not to mention, I was in here once before and forgot to check in. But, I had the pizza on the previous visit. The pizza is pretty amazing too. Very nice flavor, great crust and perfect cheese. I can't say enough about the quality of food here. It was simply amazing. I will be back so fast, their heads will spin.

Got in to town on a Friday night. Hungry to say the least. We orders 2 small pizzas. One half pepperoni half bacon. One the Primavera... which had fresh tomato, spinach and bummer. Frozen broccoli cuts...not even florets. We also got a calzone. Food tasted good but I expected fresh ingredients for the price. Come back....I'll look elsewhere.

Came here again because I love this place but it's so far away from my house. So when I'm near St. Pete I eat here. And as every time before the food was amazing!! My favorite Italian place. The sauces perfect, the pasta al dente, salads crunchy with the best Italian dressing ever, and pizza crunchy!! Did I mention it was Gluten free?? Well it is. I have a Gluten allergy and have never felt remotely sick after eating here. My favorite place to eat when I eat out of the house. I will continue to eat there!! Perfect mom and pop feel with amazing cuisine.

My husband and I had dinner here around 8:30-9 on a Friday night. Everything was great. We had the mussels in white wine sauce as an appetizer and we both agreed they were the best mussels we have had in a very long time (in any restaurant in Tamp/ St. Pete area). Pasta dishes were great too, my husband says the marina sauce was perfection.

One of the best Italian spots I've been to. Quaint, wonderful and yummy! Marinara is amazing.

Delicious pizza and pasta in an authentic Italian family setting. Gennaro's is located very close to our beach house in St. Pete's, and I am so happy about that. The first night we were there we ordered the Pepperoni Pie pizza, which comes with pepperoni, plum tomatoes, oregano, ricotta cheese and pesto sauce. This was one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. Every ingredient played off of the others and made the flavors pop, especially the plum tomatoes and pesto accents. The next night we ordered meatball marinara and shrimp scampi. Both were delicious; the scampi was bursting with lemon and garlic flavor. Both came in large portions and with a side salad and amazing garlic bread, which seemed generous.

Being from Chicago where pizza and pasta are stellar, I thought the reviews were not gonna live up to the rating but I was dead wrong. My wife and I ordered a personal meatball pizza and the shrimp fra diavolo over linguine and we were blown away. All the ingredients are homemade and fresh. The sauce is perfect on both entrees and the pizza crust... R u kidding me... So good. I honestly would say I prefer this pizza over Gino's, Unos, Lou Malnatis.... in Chicago. Its not like deep dish but still... a flavor explosion in my mouth... The pasta had big Gulf Shrimp and I can't to back for other tasty dishes... The service was great and our waitress was very helpful. The 2 star rating I saw seems odd since they liked all the dishes they ate. I would not pay attention to it if u are viewing these. 2 thumbs way up from the Saliga's in Chicago!!!

Great thin crust pizza! Authentic Italian cuisine and atmosphere. Wonderful service too. Don't forget to leave room for desert, there all amazing but do try the salted caramel cheesecake it's to die for.

Got the Gennaro special, it was good but nothing to brag about. Garlic bread with cheese what a waste of time and money. A piece of bread with a slice of melted cheese on it. I would try somewhere else next time!!

  • Karen S.

I enjoyed my first visit to Gennaro's a couple of nights before Christmas. The service was good and the pizza was great. The crust holds up well... Large portions. They only thing I would do different is serve some better beer; maybe something local like Green Bench or Cigar City. I plan to go back when I return to Pass A Grille!

This is a nice little neighborhood Italian eatery. It is consistently delicious. I love their garlic knots the size of grapefruit. Their Shrimp fradiovlo is music to your mouth. Give it a try if your on St Pete Beach and hungry.

Such a disappointment. Ordered a pizza to go and when we picked it up, it was already cold. There was barely any sauce, so essentially we ate cold, cheese covered bread. We won't be returning.

I've eaten pizza in many countries and throughout the United States. This is the best pizza I've ever had anywhere! The people are very friendly. I definitely will return. A+++++++

We were on vacation in the St. Pete area and were looking for a change from the typical seafood eateries. We were in the mood for Italian but didn't want to pay the "fine dining" prices at the hotel restaurant. We called around and were able to make a reservation at Gennaro's. When we arrived there was not a parking space up front but the girl at the front desk pointed us to additional parking around the back. Our party of 7 was seated right on time and our waitress immediately got us drinks and then explained the menu in detail. We ordered apps which came out quickly. Towards the end of our apps we were ready for more drinks but our waitress was being preoccupied by another table which needed the menu explained in great detail. :) Another waitress came by and took care of us. This was typical all evening as the waitresses were great about helping each other out and not passing the buck. The food was excellent and this was by my native Sicilian in-laws' standards. The pizza was delicious and the "kids portions" were huge. My kids are big eaters and did not leave unsatisfied. For our party of 7 plus 2 bottles of wine, a shared dessert and 4 cups of coffee the bill came to $167 (before tax). That is a pretty good deal considering the area and the level of food and service. Our waitress did apologize that she had been pulled away but no apology was necessary. We were taken care of the entire time. If we were to visit the area again I would definitely go back and I highly recommend it.

Great pizza, great location, great service, good prices. The inside atmosphere is nice. I liked that they have individual pizzas - you can get any of their specialty pizzas in a personal pizza. The price is about 6.95 and $1 for each additional topping. Thing is their max charge is 8.95 - so you can get much more than 2 toppings and still be charged 8.95. Good deal. My friend got the meat lovers (minus meatballs) personal pizza and it looked great. I got one of the white pizzas that had a rose sauce, artichokes, and garlic - it was excellent. Good size (we got medium 16"), good amount of cheese, just what I was looking for. Other people were dining on their main courses and they looked pretty good too. I just moved nearby and will definitely be back.

This is the third time eating at Gennaros and I haven't been disappointed once. The food is excellent. The owners are so friendly. The menu covers all types of eaters, vegetarian, meat eaters, pescatarians, you needn't worry about pleasing everyone. Thanks for a great restaurant.

Thanks to the desk clerk at our hotel for recommending this place. A hidden gem tucked in next to a coin laundry & Circle K. The garlic knots are superb (& humongous)! The special was linguini & fresh clams. Delish! The combo manicotti & eggplant parm is to die for! We will return as often as possible. Too bad for the desk clerk he was off duty when we returned. We brought him back a canolli, but "had" to eat it ourselves. :) Go! Enjoy! Mangia!

Gennaro's has great italian food including their chicken parmesan and pizzas. The two negatives here though is the very long wait for food and they raised the prices of everything. I do highly recommend this place for the delicious food if you are in the area.

Loved it. It is a small, intimate restaurant that can hold maybe 35 people. We almost passed by since yelp said it was "closed" we assumed because it was Monday but we saw people inside. It is a friendly family owned business with a nice warm ambiance. They played classic Sinatra and his pictures are on the walls. Now for the food: The salad had a delicious Italian dressing and the shrimp fra diavlo was probably the best I've ever had. No room for dessert but I saw delicious looking cheesecake in the front display.

Recommended to me by a family member of someone in the Rays organization, I gave this place a shot. When I arrived, I located it in a hole in the wall next to a coin laundry store and a conveinance store. After a brief wait, I was seated. The staff was very friendly. Although dinner took an extended time to arrive on our table, it was good, but not great or to die for. I had the chicken parm dinner. I have had much berter at home in Providence, RI. It appears from watching the takeout that pizza is the specialty here. Worth a try in your travels.

The pizza is GREAT! Also all the fresh made subs are amazing. As any pizza place the food is night and day if you eat it immediately or eat it 30 minutes later when you get home. I never understand people who base ratings off food they wait 45 minutes from the time it leaves a kitchen to first taste. Go lay out at the beach all morning and go by for lunch (1-2 blocks away) and I guarantee you will never be disappointed.

Atmosphere: quiet, dark, intimate. Soundtrack: Frank Sinatra Ordered fried calamari and the Gennero Special pizza pie. The calamari was a good staple. The pie was excellent. As a born and raised New Yorker on vacation, I was happily surprised by the pizza.

Tried Gennaro's while on vacation in St. Pete... Great pizza - we ordered a large pizza along with garlic knots, both of which were delicious. The pizza had an authentic look and taste to it, and it was fabulous. I can't speak for the service, as we just got take-out, but the women who helped us were very nice. About average prices, and so much better than pizza you would get from a chain. Only down side was that our order took about 45 minutes to be made, but well worth the wait if you ask me!

the wait was almost an hour on a Sunday night. the chicken Parmesan was way over cooked and not edible. the wait staff was not good- we barely saw the waitress. my parents' pizza was good, not anything super special. the garlic knots were good tho.

A group of friends and I were spending NYE in St. Pete Beach and were looking for a restaurant where we could fill up our bellies with delicious food before filling them up with champagne. My friend called a few days prior and was happy to hear they were able to accommodate our large party. Upon arrival, they had the private room ready for us which we were happy to see. We had to split up between four tables which wasn't ideal, but we knew that going in. The servers were attentive and prompt with putting in our drink and appetizer orders. My husband and I split a bottle of pinot noir which we enjoyed. Some friends ordered the sangria and were not expecting it to come out warm with no fruit...definitely not the traditional sangria you would have at a Spanish restaurant. As for our meals, unfortunately the restaurant was out of a few items some people in our party were wanting to order, so that was unfortunate. I went with a suggestion from our server which was a baked ziti with chicken in a rose sauce. Was it good? Yes. Was it memorable? Not really. But a few of us agreed it was one of the best dishes of the night. My husband ordered meatballs, and I do have to say they were really good, very garlicy and delicious with a side of garlic bread. My friend ordered the Chicken Piccata and found it underwhelming. Another friend ordered a pizza and seemed pleased with it. Another friend had the chicken parm and was confused that it came out without a side of pasta. He didn't realize that you have the choice of either a house salad OR pasta, and since he ordered a salad, his dish came out with no pasta. I found this to be strange, as I have never been to an Italian restaurant that didn't provide pasta with your dish automatically. Overall, we had a nice dinner and were happy Gennaro's was able to accommodate us on a holiday evening. However I probably wouldn't return, as I have had such great Italian meals at other restaurants in the St. Pete area.

We've been regulars here for years and its a popular place for locals. Once the snowbirds come you should call for reservations and parking can be a problem. They now serve a pretty good breakfast. Marcello is the owner/chef and makes every effort to accommodate personal requests. (I ask for my calzone a little over done so the it's not doughy). Call ahead for take out when things get busy (after cold weather sets in). Best pizza on the beach! Fantastic desserts!

Good place with above average pizza. Very big portions so bring your appetite. I would come back and try the pasta as it looked very good. Small place so big groups would have a hard time getting in there. We had 8 and were a little cramped.

I haven't been here in a very long time, and I was a little cautious, but I wasn't disappointed. We went kinda late on Sunday, so there was no wait, but I am guessing prime time there would be a heck of a wait, could be a wee bit squished. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the interior was clean, but very simple. Ok. I need to get something out here before finishing the review... This restaurant is a perfect example of a "traditional" pizza restaurant trying to move on up. Do not misinterpret what I am saying, the food was delicious. But it was not "fancy" at all. Bag salad, frozen deserts etc. It was way better than the last time I was here. The best garlic toast with cheese, ever, as a starter. Best ever because it could have been made by my granny. Delicious, traditional and tasted home made. My better half and my son loved the antipasto salad. (I wasn't blown away, I have had the antipasto salads at CDBs in Tampa.) My wife had to eat every drop of the dressing after the salad was all gone. She said it was the perfect combination of oil/vinegar. We had the special pizza, which was delicious and my son had the chicken parm special of which he ate every piece. The beer selection was limited, but I drank Peroni. So will I go back, yes. Was it the best Italian I have eaten, no. I was very very happy with my dinner. And that really is what matters, right?

Ended up here because the place across the street had a 45 minute wait, and I'm glad we did! Service was slow (not our waitress so much as the kitchen) and we had the unfortunate circumstance to be seated 2 tables away from THE LOUDEST WOMAN ON EARTH, but the food was delicious and plentiful. The calamari fra diavolo was not great, the sauce was fantastic but the calamari itself tasted like rubber. Or clay. Or somthing else not appetizing. Our entrees were good, chicken cacciatore and the chicken combo, plus a pizza for the kids. I loved the house pinot grigio, at $11 for a carafe it was fantastic. It seems from other reviews that running out of things is the norm here (plates, ingredients, etc) but if you've got the patience, I recommend dining here.

My wife and I ordered Gennaro's pizza to go when we were staying in St. Pete Beach for our anniversary. We had been having a good time near the pool, and craved a pizza. I must say...the BEST pizza I've had in a long time. A little on the greasy side, but I must say, definitely had flavor!

Very good, not great Italian food. The house salad was a very good basic salad - 5 stars. The Stromboli was truly outstanding, maybe the best I have ever had - definitely 5 stars. Pizza was very average. Better then some, not bad, but just not equal to the Stromboli. House Cabernet Sauvignon was below average, but at least it was finishable. Overall a fairly neat place that we will visit again.

Awful, horrible. Went there for lunch. It was empty except for a family sitting near the bay window. My lasagna was cold and tasted like it came from a frozen dinner. They got my sister's pizza wrong. She asked for pineapples and onions and they brought out a pizza with raw onions and sliced up ham. The other pizza was covered with unfrozened broccoli. They told us they ran out of straws and rolls so they couldn't do sandwiches. Just a bizarre and disatisfying experience. Do not recommend!

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
